Are these adjectives associated with your meeting – stale, dull, or uneventful?
If you have planned the same meeting the same way for several years, now is the time to make minor changes, so the event you and your staff work hard on is brought back to life.
“Everyone is looking for an experience. We’ve learned how to make attendees feel special. All the small touches tell your story,” stated Colin Cowie, Owner of Colin Cowie Lifestyle.
Four Subtle Changes
Change #1: Break Out the Good Stuff
Whether hosting a meeting for ten attendees or 100, have at least one meal look and feel special with linens, flatware, and china. Spring for natural floral centerpieces and raffle off each arrangement at the end of the meeting.
Change #2: Offer Personalized Services
If you are holding a multi-day event, allow each guest to pick and choose the activities they are most interested in pursuing.
Here are some ideas to consider:
- Ice skating
- Bicycling
- Golf
- Sand Volleyball
- A trip to a winery
- Visit a historical landmark
- Day spa services
Let them choose what they want to do and then provide transportation to and from the location. Allow ample time for participation.
Change #3: Get Outside
Getting outside for some period breaks up the monotony of a meeting. Schedule a walk, practice yoga, or walk along the streets or trails. Then, when attendees come back into the meeting, they will be more invigorated and ready to listen and work.
Change #4: Focus on Fun and Entertainment
Try something new and out-of-the-box.
For example, let attendees explore destinations, view new products, or play games.
If you have never had entertainment, hire a magician, hold a karaoke night or bring in a high school jazz band. This doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg, but it can be something that quickly brings a smile to your attendees.
