7 Key Uses for Computer Kiosks at Your Event or Trade Show

April 25, 2016

You use them all the time for retail applications, whether it is at your bank, movie theater or at your grocery store’s self-serve check-out lane.

But can kiosks be used at your trade show or event? The short answer is: YES! The long answer is: In many, many ways!

This article will focus on the basics of computer kiosk technology, examples of uses and overall benefits.

Computer Kiosk Basics

Kiosks have a minimum of the following:

  • A touchscreen monitor for easy access to applications and/or the Internet
  • A PC that is encased in a locked, durable cabinet

Additional add-ons to the computer kiosk rental unit include:

  • Wi-Fi access
  • DVD Player for showing videos or presentations
  • Keyboard, if you anticipate attendees will do a lot of typing
  • Magnetic Stripe Reader for badges to check-in,  accumulation of educational credits, or credit card processing
  • Webcam for photos
  • Headphones if you anticipate a lot of noise at your conference and
  • A Printer

Meeting and Event Kiosk Uses

Self-serve event registration

This application alone can save your organization a lot of money and time. Rather than having staff manually check in attendees, they are free to network and caterer to the needs of their guests. In addition, since kiosk rentals are available 24/7 and are securely locked in place, attendees have maximum flexibility to register. Badges can be printed on the spot as well with bar codes at the bottom for educational tracking.

Branding and Sponsorship Opportunities

Computer kiosks allow for a multitude of branding and sponsorship opportunities. They include the following options:

  • Logo displayed above or below the monitor
  • Branding of the kiosk body and/or
  • Continuous loop of sponsor logos, slogans and product videos

Product Launches

Kiosks can run teaser videos, quiz attendees’ knowledge about the product line, or gather email addresses to send product information to interested parties electronically.

Wi-Fi Resource

If Wi-Fi is limited or unavailable at your meeting or on the trade show floor, you can tout one resource attendees can go to for access to the Internet. Attendees can check on restaurants, attractions and their flights home without burning their cell data plan up.

Digital Signage

Kiosk rentals can be strategically placed throughout the conference running an app that can direct attendees to their meeting rooms, give them a brief overview of the speaker and topic, and give them a map of the trade show floor.

Access to Presentations

Using a DVD player attached to the computer, all presentations can be preloaded onto a DVD thus allowing attendees to catch up on missed programs while they are still at the conference.

In addition, shorter presentation clips and speaker bios can also be a great use of this technology.

Survey Tool

Attendees can take a survey about the event using touch panel kiosks. No more paper to process and input into a spreadsheet. Attendees can access and fill out this survey anytime during the conference.

Computer Kiosk Benefits

The overarching benefits of this technology include:

  • It is very easy to use because attendees are used to using one on a retail level
  • Highly intuitive
  • They are very durable and very secure
  • Kiosks have a small footprint so if space is tight, this is a great option
  • Attendees can have 24/7 access to them
  • They are ideal for selling different levels of sponsorship
