3 Answers You Need to Know About Your 2020 Website Development

What is the difference between mobile-friendly and mobile-optimized?

Mobile-friendly means your website shrinks to the mobile device while mobile-optimized is much more.

If your website isn’t mobile-friendly, will your site be affected by search?

Yes. While there are over 200 algorithm pointers AND Google shifts the algorithm every quarter with a core update, they have stated time and time again, the most significant search indicator is a mobile website. They index your mobile site before your desktop one.

What else should you take into consideration?

According to Counterpoint, American smartphone users spend 5+ hours a day on this device. If your website isn’t mobile-optimized, it either will not come up in the search, or it will be discounted if the user has to “pinch” to see the results.

Voice searches represent at least 50% of all searches, according to Comscore. If your website isn’t mobile, it will not come up as an option.

Even if your website is mobile-friendly, it may not be mobile optimized. According to Google, 47% percent of users expect a website to load in two seconds or less. If it doesn’t load that fast, there is a high probability each user will abandon your site.

What do you need to change when you convert?

  • For the most part, your website needs to be in a single column.
  • The navigation should be simple, one or two words. Preferably one.
  • Make your website fast. Google likes load times of 2 seconds or less.
  • When developing your new website, be sure to check it several times on your phone to ensure the images are not distorted, or text isn’t cut off.
  • Eliminate PDFs. They are not mobile responsive and will only frustrate a user who is on a smartphone. Take relevant data and convert it into a web page.
  • If you’ve recently changed your brand or pivoted your company, be sure, your website and other marketing platforms reflect your change.
  • Evaluate the primary purpose of the website. Does your site represent your brand well and align with your business goals?
  • Does your site quickly provide the information visitors want?
